A recent rumor suggested that AMD is planning to launch a 32GB VRAM graphics card that won’t be a ‘Pro’ edition for workstations. Instead, leaks claimed it would be a gaming card within the RX 9070 series. Initially, we assumed this would be a 32GB edition of the RX 9070 XT, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Along with AMD finally confirming the RX 9000 series reveal date, the company has also shut down rumors of a 32GB RX 9070 XT.
“The 9070 XT card is not coming in 32GB,” said Frank Azor, Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions and Gaming Marketing at AMD, addressing the 32GB GPU rumors. However, the interesting part is that he hasn’t denied the possibility of a 32GB graphics card altogether. All he clarified is that if one is even planned, it won’t be a variant of the RX 9070 XT. And it seems like there’s still more to uncover before we give up hope on a 32GB VRAM AMD graphics card.
Unknown GPU renders surface online
This comes from Twitter/X, where a prominent hardware leaker, Everest, shared renders of an unknown AMD GPU that appears to be a Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon card. Based on the renders, the GPU looks quite bulky, almost as large as the RTX 4090, which has dimensions of 304 mm x 137 mm x 61 mm for the Founders Edition. This suggests it could be a 3.5-slot or even a 4-slot card, meaning case compatibility might be a concern.
Aside from that, the card features a triple-fan cooling system, a metal mesh shroud on the sides, and an ARGB-illuminated grille that resembles the RGB bar from the Nitro+ RX 7000 series but is more concealed. There also appears to be a removable magnetic backplate, similar to PowerColor’s Red Devil from the previous generation. Another interesting detail that many users pointed out is that the GPU could have a 12-pin power connector, which has left some disappointed.
That said, these are just leaked renders. And with AMD shutting down the rumors of an RX 9070 XT with 32GB of VRAM to (sort of) compete with the RTX 5090, there’s never a sure way to confirm which leaks are real and which aren’t. So for now, don’t get your hopes too high for this chunky AMD GPU.
