Apple’s Mac Pro is one of the most powerful workstations you can get to tackle demanding professional workloads. Whether it’s high-end tasks like 3D graphics, machine learning, or editing 4K video at full resolution, this machine can handle it all. And all of this is packed inside an aluminum steel case that is hard to forget once you see it. However, while the Mac Pro excels at workstation tasks, it is not built for gaming. So even if you have the budget to afford its eye-watering price, it is not useful if gaming is your priority.

But what if someone wants the best of both worlds? The aesthetics of the ‘cheese grater’ Mac Pro and the power of a gaming PC? Well, it turns out there is a pretty neat solution for that. Reddit user blckb3ard shared their custom Mac Pro-inspired build, which houses top-tier gaming components like the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and the all-new GeForce RTX 5080 inside what appears to be one of the most accurate replicas of the Mac Pro in ATX form.

Meet the MCPRUE Apollo X

The case in question is called the MCPRUE Apollo X, which essentially makes premium replicas of the original Mac Pro 2019 case. That said, the MCPRUE Apollo X is a $949 ATX case made from Aluminum T6063 stainless steel, designed for gamers in mind.

It features stainless steel feet at the bottom and pickup handles on top, much like the original Mac Pro case, and supports E-ATX, ATX, Micro-ATX, and ITX motherboards. Fan compatibility includes up to three 140mm fans at the front and two 80mm fans at the rear bottom, along with water cooling support of up to 360mm. So, cooling your components shouldn’t be an issue here.

Aside from that, the case weighs 14kg and comes in two color options: Deep Space Black and Silver. If you’re going for that classic Mac Pro look, Silver is the obvious choice. The original poster who shared the Mac Pro replica case also had an Apple sticker on the side, which, of course, isn’t included with the case. But if you want, you can always get one and add it yourself.

There’s even a smaller option available

There are a total of five different cases listed on the MCPURE website, but the two main highlights are the MCPRUE Apollo X, which we already discussed, and the smaller MCPRUE Apollo S. The Apollo S is also heavily based on the original Mac Pro case but comes in a much smaller form factor. However, it doesn’t include the steel pickup handles on the top or the feet at the bottom, and to get them, you’ll need to purchase the MCPRUE Apollo S Accessory for an additional $40.

That said, the quality of the cases, according to the Reddit user, is “up to Apple standards.” They mentioned that they previously owned the original 2019 Mac Pro and, in comparison, the materials and workmanship of the MCPRUE Apollo X are on par. Still, you’re paying almost $1,000 for just the case, but if it’s something you really want, it’s certainly cheaper than spending $6,000 on the original Mac Pro workstation.
